Thank you so much! So I'm specifying help for my instance as it relates to Windows Media Center. I had this no disk problem and my desktop would blink and the icons disappear as explorer would stop and restart. Last night I was looking for some free .wav files for my own amusement and started clicking on one to listen to it and the Real Player screen appeared.

Solutions to the exception differs from one computer to the other. It solved the problem and my system is virus free now. It took me forever to find it the first time, but it had something to do with an update they had out. I turned on the second external drive, the letter had changed to "H" from "G" and so far, so good: no W-ND message.
