Further, I'm using a Linksys 4 port switch, although it was a cheapie.3. We have a 'shared' area for staff to save to, and individual 'home' areas as well. BIOS settings on the computer are forcing faster UDMA modes than the drive controller can handle. Then it all started downhill. i have a second almost identical pc with xp pro (i use it for games) and set the USB HDD to be a shared network drive; fantastic, copied files over no not yet with data on a Windows server.Any more ideas on this one? FWIW, I had the problem appear with a 250Gb Lacie (Western Digital) drive and a 500Gb Iomega (Seagate) drive, both connected directly to the USB ports on a Dell D620.
